The Darkglass Electronics Kaamos Bass Octaver and Distortion pedal was born from a creative partnership between Darkglass and acclaimed bassist/producer Amos Heller. Fusing Heller’s performance-driven expectations with Darkglass's modern tone architecture, Kaamos was crafted to deliver crushing low end with musical flexibility. The design revolves around the dual nature of Heller’s tonal demands—brutal yet articulate—resulting in a pedal that gives players command over thick octave textures and saturated distortion in one intuitive interface.
At the core of Kaamos is a highly adaptable routing system that allows real-time configuration between parallel and series signal paths. The distortion side features two selectable drive voices (α and Ω) blendable via the Drive Mod control, along with adjustable tone, drive amount, and drive level. On the octave side, users can choose from three different tracking algorithms—monophonic mute-style, monophonic flip-style, or polyphonic—tailoring the sub-layer to suit various playing contexts. Independent control over clean and sub levels, along with a low-pass filter for the octave signal, provides further precision. A pressable knob toggles the signal path routing between series or parallel, allowing deep sonic experimentation.
On the back panel, Kaamos includes comprehensive I/O to support diverse setups. A standard input and output are joined by a dedicated Sub output, isolating the low-octave signal for advanced routing, such as bi-amp configurations. The send and return jacks activate a flexible effects loop, which can be placed in one of three locations: after the octave, after the distortion, or in parallel. The loop is smart enough to detect whether it’s in use and automatically remove itself when bypassed. Kaamos integrates high-spec engineering with a modular mindset for modern bassists.
